Our Projects

Rocketry

The StrathAIS Rocketry Team is a division of StrathAIS (Strathclyde Aerospace Innovation Society). Created in 2021, the Rocketry Team successfully competed in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Spaceport America Cup (SAC) Competition with our Level 3 rockets.

The Spaceport America Cup is the world’s largest intercollegiate rocket engineering conference and competition, where over 1,700 students will attend annually in New Mexico with the opportunity to collaborate and compete at the world-class Spaceport America launch facility, representing the best and brightest from more than 150 institutions across the world. The competition is sponsored by some of the largest commercial space companies in the world, NASA, Virgin Galactic, and Blue Origin.

STRATHcube

StrathAIS Space Systems is a division of StrathAIS (Strathclyde Aerospace Innovation Society). Who are developing Strathclyde University’s first ever student developed satellite ‘STRATHcube’ which is due for launch in 2027.

STRATHcube aims to positively contribute to ongoing research in space debris mitigation for the sustainable usage of space through the development of a CubeSat platform. CubeSats are a standardised nanosatellite made up of 10x10x10 cm ‘units’, or 1U. These platforms have made space missions more accessible, reducing their typical cost and development time by using standardised Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components.

Through the Fly Your Satellite (FYS) programme, the European Space Agency (ESA) provides an exciting opportunity for STRATHcube as a route to potentially launch the mission.
